Here's How I Protect (Read: Own) My Peace in a Crazy World

Life can be tough - I mean, have you seen the prices of avocado toast these days?


But seriously, with unhealthy people, non-stop negative news, and tempting toxic food options everywhere, it's easy to feel like the world is conspiring against your attempts at a peaceful life.


So, here are a few practical ways I like take back my power, and maybe it will help you too:


01 Surround yourself with quality people - because let's be real, life is too short to spend all your time with people who don’t align with your values. Curate a community that is drenched in mutual respect, with a willingness to learn, the ability to say ‘I am truly sorry’ when it feels hard, and ‘I forgive you’ when it feels even harder. Create a community where you celebrate one another’s highs and mourn alongside each other in the lows. The saying ‘show me your friends and I will show you your future’ is not for nothing.

02 Limit your news intake - unless you want to start each day feeling like you've just stepped into an apocalyptic horror movie, try not to consume too much of the news these days. Know what you need to know, and remember that airplane mode, is underrated. Trust me, your mental health will thank you.

03 Fuel up with healthy food - Okay, I know, bowls of Woolies Belgian chocolate ice cream doused in smarties are delicious. But so is feeling energized and focused! Eating nourishing food doesn't mean you have to give up everything you love. Just try to switch some whole, non-processed food into your day wherever you can.

04 Rest in God’s sweet Presence. Finally, finding peace in a hectic world can often be as simple as runnin’ back home. Philippians 4:8-9 says, "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. . .And the God of peace will be with you." By focusing on what is good and true, you can find peace and comfort in God's love and grace.


Taking control of your life doesn’t have to be like taking control of a runaway train. So, surround yourself with good people, limit the negative news, eat some kale (I highly recommend saturating it in olive oil) and stay close to Jesus.

Staying in tune with simple measures in the moment, makes a meaningful difference.
